Becoming A Licensed Driver In Ontario
G1 License
You must be at least 16 years of age in Ontario to attempt your official G1 Examination. Once you have successfully passed the examination you will become a Licensed G1 Class Holder. Your time frame to becoming fully licensed begins on the day you have passed.
G2 License
You must hold a valid G1 License for at least 8-12 months before you can attempt your official G2 Examination.
- 8 months if you have pass an MTO certified driving course.
- 12 months if you have not completed an MTO certified driving course.
G License
You must hold a valid G2 License for at least 12 months before you can attempt your official G Examination. You must wait at least 12 months regardless of whether you have completed a driving school course or not.
How long does it take to become fully licensed (G Class)?
It will take at least 20 – 24 months (1.7 – 2 years) to become a fully Licensed G Class Holder in Ontario.
